Can my long distance relationship last?

My boyfriend lives in a different city than me, and we only get to see each other over the holidays. It's starting to occur to me that long distance relationships just don't work, and I don't know what to do. We text each other everyday and he rings me all the time, but I'm still not sure what to do.
